American semiconductor company Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets are part of a good majority of flagship devices from different OEMs. Many global OEMs like Samsung, HTC, LG and Motorola bank on the chipmaker's high-performing SoC units. Notably, the number of manufacturers relying on this chipmaker is increasing day-by-day. With so much responsibility to deliver the hardware configurations on time, to help with the smartphone release schedule, Qualcomm is definitely one of the prioritised units in OEMs life cycle. However, according to the latest news, the OEMs relying on the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processors have landed in hot water.

It is worth noting that the upcoming Snapdragon 810 chipset is reported to be part of Samsung's 2015 flagship Galaxy S6, LG's G4 and more. With a not-so-impressive 2014 quarter results, Samsung would reportedly be relying on the Galaxy S6 to make an impact in 2015. Apparently, a Korean report states that the next-generation devices with release date set in 2015 are in serious trouble. As it turns out, Qualcomm has stumbled on to a major issue with the Snapdragon 810 chipset. This major issue, in turn, will curb the mass production of the SoC and delay the delivery of chipsets to OEMs. And thereby, the release of the next-generation handsets will also be delayed, according to GSM Arena.

Based on the report from Business Korea, Qualcomm's chipsets has been undergoing severe overheating problems at certain voltages. Owing to this overheating problem, the chipsets were forced into unwanted throttling and thereby, leading to performance related issues. Plus, the trouble doesn't end here, reports further claim that the major issue extends to the chip's RAM controller, in addition to potential bugs in the graphical unit Adreno 430 drivers.

Even though, the aforesaid problems can reportedly be fixed, they are critical enough to delay the mass production of the Snapdragon 810 units. Implying that all flagship releases set for the first half of 2015 might have to either postpone the release date or may have to get help from other chip makers, says the same site.

Two major releases expected in the first half of 2015 are from Samsung and LG, hence this mass production issue is a major setback to these OEMs. On the other hand, Samsung could reportedly use its own Exynos SoC for the Samsung Galaxy S6. But then, the chip is reportedly not 100 percent flawless, at this point. Hence, Samsung could still be in trouble. In case, Samsung plans to go ahead with the plan of using Exynos SoC by ignoring the flaws in the chipset, the sheer number of units the company has to produce in the limited available time, looks unachievable.

Nonetheless, readers should note that none of the companies involved have officially acknowledged this problem, at this point. Hence, instead of jumping to conclusions, it is good to wait to hear the other side of the story from the horse's mouth.
