South Korea has been praised for its extraordinary pop culture export well-known as Korean pop or K-pop. Since the successful release of Psy's Gangnam Style, the worldwide acceptance and popularity of the K-pop culture has incredibly multiplied.

Gangnam Style attracted the viewers with the flashy dance steps which helped the single's music video become the first ever to exceed the 1 billion viewing mark on social media site YouTube. As of July 16, more than 1.7 billion viewers have already watched the Gangnam Style video which is a huge viewing number compared to the other clips in the sharing history of the Web site.

The unexpected success of Gangnam Style allowed Korean superstar Psy gather nearly half billion views for his follow up single titled Gentleman. Moreover, Gangnam Style opened the doors as well for the K-pop culture to the international audience.

According to the YouTube officials, the United States initially never heard of Psy or any other Korean music song until Gangnam Style went viral. In 2011, the K-pop channels only had less than half viewers coming from areas that are outside of the Asia-Pacific region but now, it is reportedly over 90%.

It appears that the effect of the Gangnam Style phenomenon could still be seen in the years to come. Gangnam Style is undeniably a catchy song matched with a fun dance step similar to riding a horse. "The mindset of this song is to dress classy and dance cheesy," Psy previously stated to TV host Ellen DeGeneres during an interview.
