In Season 5 Episode 3, Reese (Jim Caviezel) was battling whether to sever his relationships to fulfill his mission.

The episode, titled “Truth Be Told,” started with a flashback. There was a CIA meeting in 2010. Terence Beal (Keith David), who recruited Reese, assigned the latter and Kara to investigate a military advisor, Brent Tomlinson, who was suspected of aiding the Taliban steal a Stinger missile shipment. They were supposed to kill Tomlinson if he was found guilty.

Back in the present, Reese was doing his best to live a normal life. He took his girlfriend’s parents out to lunch. Afterwards, he dealt with Alex Duncan (Stephen Plunkett). The Machine was providing information, although some of these were still unreliable. Reese was required to go undercover to help The Machine distinguish enemies and allies. Reese discovered that Alex was up to something. He found Alex stealing some files from his supervisor’s office. The CIA arrived with Beal and arrested Alex.

Another 2010 flashback was shown, with Reese and Kara (Annie Parrise) questioning Tomlinson about the stolen shipment. Although he denied any wrongdoing, Reese ended up killing him. Kara found money in Tomlinson’s briefcase.

During the episode, Root (Amy Acker) installed the malware and discovered that it was replicating itself and overwriting the current code of the laptop.

Reese later managed to rescue Alex. Beal recognized Reese and realized that he was still alive. Alex revealed that he stole the files to get more information about the death of his brother, Paul.

Subsequently, Reese and Alex were captured by Beal. A fight inside the vehicle followed until the car toppled over, allowing the two to escape. The next day, Reese and Beal agreed that Reese will not divulge the details of the operation as long as Beal does not go after Alex. Beal also said that he will leave Reese out of his report.

Afterwards, Reese broke up with Iris (Wrenn Schmidt) because his mission against Samaritan is causing him to be his old self again. He does not want their relationship to stand in the way of his objectives. It is still uncertain whether Reese’s decision was right for him and the team.

"Person of Interest" ("POI") Season 5 Episode 4, titled "6,741," will air next on May 16 on CBS. It also airs on FX in Australia.
