The Washington Wizards are offering fourth-year forward Otto Porter Jr. to the Indiana Pacers in a potential Paul George trade. Earlier in the week, Wizards star John Wall publicly recruited the Pacers All-Star.

Since Porter Jr. is a Restricted Free Agent (RFA), the Wizards have the right to match any and all offer sheets from rival suitors. However, a trade would require Porter's consent to join Indiana since the capped-out Wizards would have to execute a sign-and-trade in order to land George. The Wizards are working with little cap flexibility and might have to let go off Jason Smith and/or Kelly Oubre Jr. to sign George to an extension.

ESPN's Zach Lowe reported on Friday that "the Wizards would likely sign-and-trade Otto Porter, with one protected pick attached, to rent George, according to league sources." The Wizards could be acquiring George as a one-year "rental" with hopes of re-signing him next July. Wall has reportedly urged Ernie Grunfeld, the general manger of the Wizards, to get enter the George sweepstakes. During June's NBA Draft, the Wizards were one of six teams that engaged in talks with the Pacers.

Porter finished the 2016-17 NBA season as one of the league's deadliest snipers, shooting an impressive .434 from three-point range through 80 games. Though Porter hasn't excelled on the defensive end, he averaged a nice tally of 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.5 steals from 32.6 minutes per game.

Paul George trade: Could All-Star sign extension elsewhere?

Earlier reports suggested George would sign an extension only with hometown franchise, the Los Angeles Lakers. However, USA Today's Sam Amick has hinted that George is open to the idea of signing elsewhere provided the team could make a deep playoff run.

Wall led the Wizards to a 49-33 record last season and just one win away from a berth in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Wizards lost 4-3 to the Boston Celtics in a dramatic semi-final series. According to Wall, the Wizards are just a piece away from legitimately challenging the Cleveland Cavaliers for the East and potentially the Golden State Warriors for the NBA championship.

"Look at our team. We are one piece away. We have the point guard (myself), we have the shooting guard (Bradley Beal), we have the centre, we have the power forward. Our 3-man, (Otto Porter Jr.), did great for us. You can't take anything away from what he did. But, (George) is a guy that can guard LeBron and go back at LeBron. It's a piece that you're going to need to win. If you don't have a guy who can do that, you don't have a chance," Wall said, explaining how George could fix the needed holes in his team.

A Paul George trade is still very much likely to happen before the start of the 2017-18 NBA season. The new Pacers front office, under president Kevin Pritchard, is weighing offers from the Lakers, Wizards, Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics.
