Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd) of "Grey's Anatomy" has revealed a racy side to him. The McDreamy actor hinted at his exit from the show in a recent interview saying he'd really prefer to spend his days behind the wheel of a race car.

The racing enthusiast however has clarified that he loves working on the show, though racing remains his first passion. "There's a purity to it that I don't find in my work."

Will he quit the show then? Dempsey did not clarify it but revealed some new spoilers from Season 10.

"Whether or not we're in the show, I think the show will continue on. I know [creator] Shonda [Rhimes] would like it to continue," the McDreamy star revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"Acting is a different kind of passion. When you've been on a show for 10 years, you don't have the same sense of discovery, because you're telling the same story over and over," the actor said adding that there will be no timeline jump from Season 9 and the new season will start from the violent storm. The doctors will explore brain mapping.

"We're going to get into President Obama's agenda on brain mapping. I think that will be fun for Shepard to get into that, it's a fascinating thing. I've been starting to look at the research on that and what they're trying to achieve. I'm excited about that storyline. The writers are really getting into it."

"We're continuing on where we left off last season. It's continuous and it feels like it, too. The storm is continuing on and we pick up right where we left off. We're still dealing with the crisis of what's happening with the storm. We air the first two hours and our fourth episode in the season is our 200th, which is remarkable in itself," Dempsey said in a chit-chat with the publication.

On the Meredith context, Dempsey said she will try and find a balance between her career and kids though "Shepard is going to spending more time with the children than his career, at least initially."

"We're going to see what kind of conflict that brings in their relationship. They can't be just be happy; we have to have some conflict with those two," the actor added.

The 47-year-old actor also stars in a new documentary series "Racing LeMans." The four-episode show follows Dempsey as he prepares for and then competes in the 24-hour race in LeMans.

Dempsey finished 29th and fourth in his class, a showing he said surprised many people who assumed he was just dabbling in the sport.

In the past Paul Newman, Steve McQueen and James Garner are among few actors who have become racing enthusiasts.

Grey's Anatomy returns with its two-hour premiere Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
