One Direction has released a farewell song, titled “History” on Friday. The four-member band is just one week away from the release of their fifth studio album, “Made in the A.M.,” their last new material before taking an extended hiatus.

"I thought we were going on/I thought we were holding on/Aren't we?" the boys sing in their new song “History.”

"You and me gotta whole lot of history/So don't let it go/We can make some more/We can live forever,” says the chorus. The song has actually echoed the sentiments of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, as they are on the brink of saying good-bye to the life of being a boyband. Check out the song below.

In their latest interview with The Sun, the boys have revealed why they really want to take a long break, even if it means leaving their fans in dismay and saying no to a lot of money. But they also reiterated the fact that they will be back in future.

“It’s not over. And yes, we’re taking a break, but we need one. We have done four tours, five albums, but we will be coming back. We don’t want this to end,” Payne is quoted as saying by the publication.

The boys also talked about the time when Zayn Malik left the band saying he wanted to lead a “normal life.” Payne said it was a “really tough moment” for him when Malik decided to quit.

“That was really, really hard. We knew it was coming, we saw a lot of signs in a lot of the gigs abroad. It was sad," Tomlinson added. However, Styles said that Malik's departure brought the four of them together.

“It made us look at what we had and really know we wanted to keep it. It also made us really focus on making the best album we could,” he added.

“Made In The A.M.” is scheduled to be release on Friday, November 13.
