Series creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis will be incorporating the “Brave” character Merida in “Once Upon a Time,” or “OUAT,” Season 5 following the inclusion of the “Frozen” characters and storyline in “Once Upon a Time” Season 4. Horowitz and Kitsis shared some details on how Merida will fit in the ABC fairytale drama series’ new storyline. “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 will premiere on Sunday night, Sept. 27, at 8/7c on ABC. [Spoiler Alert!]

“OUAT” series creators and executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are very excited to include the red-haired character Merida from the 2012 computer-animated fantasy-comedy film “Brave.” Horowitz revealed in an Entertainment Weekly, or EW, report that Merida is a character that he and Kitsis have loved ever since the film came out.

“This is the first Pixar character on the show,” Horowitz said in the EW report. Horowitz teased that Merida’s appearance in “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 will be some time after the events that happened in the “Brave” film.

Horowitz added that the new season will also show how Merida, played by Amy Manson, crosses paths with the “OUAT” characters and mythology. Meanwhile, Kitsis teased that Merida will be a lot of fun to watch because the new “OUAT” character is described as a spitfire, like how she was in the “Brave” film.

Horowitz revealed that Merida will be part of Emma Swan’s journey as the new Dark One before meeting the rest of the “OUAT” characters in Storybrooke.

“All that is tied with how we explore the world of Camelot this year,” Horowitz shared in the EW report.

Horowitz hopes that the viewers will see how the characters connect in a fun way like Merlin’s important role in getting what Emma Swan, played by Jennifer Morrison, needs.

“You’ll get that pretty much from the start. In the season premiere, there’s a lot that happens, including Merida and giving you a taste of what we plan to do with Camelot,” Horowitz teased.

Hypable reports that “Once Upon a Time” has teased Merida’s debut scene in Season 5 at the 2015 Comic-Con. The brief sneak peek video features Amy Manson as the red-haired “Brave” character with impressive archery skills.
