Nokia is looking at getting back to the mobile phone business; however, the company is restricted to from putting its label on the device until the fourth quarter of 2016, according to reports.

According to a report on Manager Magazin via The Verge, Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri says Nokia is considering a comeback to the mobile phone business. "We will look for suitable partners," The Manager Magazin report quoted Suri, as saying. "Microsoft makes mobile phones. We would simply design them and then make the brand name available to license,” the publication quoted Suri further.

Currently, Nokia has restrictions in terms of using its brand on phones until Q4, 2016 and the company plans to design the hardware and then license it name out rather than building the phones itself, reports The Verge. The company adopted a similar strategy for its NI tablet that is powered by Android and in future, Nokia plans to implement the same strategy on most of its devices, as per The Verge report.

In April, IT Wire reported about Nokia’s plans to re-enter the smartphone market. As per the publication, Nokia is likely to make its comeback to the smart phone market as the once ‘most popular’ mobile handset maker’s deal with Microsoft to refrain itself from entering the smart phone segment will expire in the third quarter of 2016. The IT Wire report had also mentioned that Nokia would try out Android, as it did with its N1 tablet design as it is quite late for the company to come up with an entirely new operating system.

The latest update on Nokia’s plan to return to the phone making business comes immediately after Microsoft announced a change at its top management level, in which former Nokia CEO is parting ways from the Redmond based software firm, report The Verge. The publication also mentioned that Microsoft seems to clear out legacy Nokia elements and the company is putting its devices and Windows divisions under one roof.
