San Francisco 49ers rookie Jarryd Hayne could settle for another limited role when the club takes on the Seattle Seahawks on Friday in Week 7 of the NFL 2015-2016 season.

Hayne, who has been struggling to earn snaps on offense for the 49ers, could find himself getting minimal minutes again ahead of the team’s match against the Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium. According to Fox Sports, the 49ers have worked out veteran running back Pierre Thomas, who has spent six seasons with the New Orleans Saints.

In 2013, Thomas topped all NFL running backs for receiving yards and led the Saints for rushing yards in 2008 and 2009. Thomas, who was also part of the Saints’ Super Bowl in in 2010, was released by New Orleans in March.

Although Thomas has not been signed yet, the 49ers are looking at the 30-year-old free agent as a reliable backup to the team’s top running back Carlos Hyde, who has a nagging foot injury, and Reggie Bush, who is also plagued by injury all season. Hyde has 104 carries in the club’s first six games of the season, but Hayne and fellow rookie Mike Davis have not earned the confidence of the 49ers coaches to take some of the heavy workload at the RB position.

Hayne struggled mightily in the 49ers’ 25-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, recording his third fumble of the season. The Australian rugby league star admitted he was devastated by the fumble, which was eventually recovered by the 49ers, but Hayne insisted he is not feeling frustrated of not getting much opportunities to make a splash in his rookie year.

“No, for me, it’s about going out there and learning and being grateful to get the opportunity to be out there and learn the game,” Hayne said, reports San Jose Mercury News. “You’ve got to remember, it’s just my [sixth] game, so it’s still a learning process.”

Hayne also confessed he is still enjoying his stint as an American football player, adding that he is trying to make the necessary adjustments during training sessions and game days. “You can prepare and study as much as you want, but game day and game intensity is different. For me, I’ve embraced every challenge and being ready when my name is called upon,” Hayne added.
