The Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is the next generation operating system, or OS, of Android devices, have just been rolled out for Nexus devices. Other units, however, will have to wait until the end of September for the new OS.

The new OS can be downloaded on the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player units directly, even if they do not have Developer Previews 1 and 2. Those who do, though, will get an over the air, or OTA, update for Preview 3. With Google's recently released Developer Previews for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow, some Nexus device users can immediately check out the OS prior to its official launch, as pointed out by Tech Times.

To start, users will have to download the ADB tools and unpack the ZIP file from Android Pit Files. Each of the Nexus devices that have been mentioned will have its own factory image on Google APIS Storage, which, in turn, can easily be downloaded by clicking the following links: Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player.

Once the ZIP file from the ADB tools has been successfully extracted, the factory image must automatically be in the same folder. The next step is to start the smartphones in its fast-boot mode. To activate this special mode, the Power button and the Volume Down button must be pressed at the same time.

Once the fast-boot mode has been activated, the Flash-All.bat file must be clicked twice. Doing so will run a batch process. Afterward, the device will automatically restart. As the unit turns on again, a new welcome page will be seen, which indicates that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Preview 3 has successfully been installed.

Before the download and installation process, however, users must first remember to back up any important files. There must also be at least 50 percent battery power on the device. More importantly, it is strongly advised that only those who are familiar with working with factory images must attempt to install the new operating system's Preview 3.
