The attention and excitement is already building up on LG's upcoming smart phone, the Nexus 5. Current reports suggest the company will incorporate the 8-core Odin processor on their latest device.

Mass production for the Odin processor is scheduled to begin later this year. The chip is claimed to have the ARM big.LITTLE processor utilised in Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa.

The Odin processor is manufactured with the 28nm High K Metal Gate fabrication tech to support full HD at 1920x1080 screen resolution. Though the processor does not have a baseband modem, it could still work with the four Cortex A15 cores as they deal with heavy tasks.

The Nexus 5 smart phone, also reportedly considered as the upcoming Motorola X phone, will have a 13MP camera and 2GB of RAM with the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie OS. Other features and specifications include the 5-inch screen display with a 440ppi resolution.

The LG Optimus G smart phone has been very successful in the United States. Provided that the Nexus 4 smart phone was based on the LG Optimus G hardware, it is anticipated for the Nexus 5 device to be based as well with the LG Optimus G or the LG Optimus G Pro.

Nexus 5 powered with the 8-core Odin processor will definitely compete with the other smart phones such as HTC One, Sony Xperia Z and even the Samsung Galaxy S4.

For the Nexus 5 release, it is reported to have a launch on May 15 then make its official appearance in the Google Play Store on June or July. Aside from the Nexus 5 smart phone, the LG Optimus G successor is expected as well to feature the Odin processor.
