The California-based technology giant is reportedly in talks with Intel for a processor manufacturing deal for the Apple devices like iPad 5 and iPhone 5S. According to the Reuters report, the company executives have been discussing the deal for a year now but there is no confirmation yet whether the deal pushes through or not.

The collaborative work between these two giant companies indicates that Apple has found another processor manufacturer that can meet with their specifications. Apple currently utilizes the A-series chips that Samsung and TSMC manufactured.

Intel is considered as one of the best after demonstrating the ability to produce fast, battery efficient processor chips with a reasonably low number of cores. It appears Apple is ready to embrace the Intel technology instead of taking on the third parties in China like Foxconn.

Meanwhile, Apple could delay the release of the iPad 5 as well as the iPad Mini 2 due to lack of supply for a key component. This contradicts the other reports suggesting the early launch of the Apple devices on April 2013.

According to the DigiTimes report, Nissha, Apple's main supplier for the thin-film touch sensors, revealed that they have been suffering severe shortages due to "a lack of production capacity." The company needs to increase the sensors output up to 30% before the first quarter of 2013 ends in order to reach the demand.

The thin-film touch sensors are reportedly designed to be incorporated in the latest Apple iPad and the supply issues has the technology giant struggling. With that, there is a possibility that the iPad 5 as well as the iPad Mini 2 will have a release date some time before the 2013 third quarter ends or the beginning of the fourth quarter.
