Fans got to have their first look at a new “Spider-Man: Homecoming” clip thanks to Sony Pictures revealing the footage at the 2017 MTV Awards. The scene shows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker sneaking back into his room in complete Spider-Man garb. He is seen coming in through the window of his bedroom and crawling on the ceiling so as to avoid making a commotion before using his web shooter to shut the door. However, as soon as he lands on his feet, he is greeted by his best friend Ned Leeds, portrayed by actor Jacob Batalon. The commotion that ensues has Peter trying — and failing — to convince Ned that he isn’t Spider-Man. The film’s protagonist later relents and instead begs his best friend to keep his secret identity as it is: a secret.

In line with promotions for the film, Holland, along with his co-star Zendaya who portrays the character Michelle in “Homecoming,” made an appearance at “Lip Sync Battle.” While Zendaya’s rendition of Bruno Mars’ “24K Magic” wowed the audience, it was ultimately Holland who took home the winner title after his performance of Rihanna’s “Umbrella” blew everyone away.

Previously, it was speculated that Marvel Studios may actually re-acquire the film rights to Spider-Man following the release of “Homecoming.” As some fans may be aware, Sony Pictures owns the film rights to Spider-Man. However, a trademark deal between Sony and Marvel has allowed the character to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all with the film rights remaining where they are with Sony. Though Marvel does not own the rights to Spider-Man, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” star Dave Bautista believes that the studio will eventually re-acquire the character somewhere down the road.

“Spider-Man is the one I’m really looking forward to,” Bautista said, speaking to former WWE colleague Chris Jericho on “Talk is Jericho” at Podcast One. “I love that kid — I love Tom Holland. I also love that they’re staying so true to the comics with this whole series and I think that’s because Marvel Studios has gotten involved. I think before, I think it was Sony who had control. And I think they’re doing a partnership now, but I think they will — I don’t know this for sure — but I think they’re going to re-acquire Spider-Man.”

Whether or not Marvel will soon re-acquire Spider-Man is still up for debate, but for now, fans can satiate their anticipation with the newest clip released by MTV. Watch the scene unfold below:
