Since the recent release of Google's Nexus 7 out in the market, the 7-inch device has often been compared to the iPad mini. However, most of the comparison are on the technical aspect as seen in this video.

Square Table decided to give the two devices another kind of test - the torture test which was handily won by the Nexus 7. Square Table is a provider of tablet and gadget warranties.

The company did the drop, slide and dunk torture test on three 7-inch tablets, the iPad Mini and the new and old Nexus.

The first test involved dropping the three devices from five feet. Results of the test show that the iPad mini was the most damaged, the old Nexus had some damage and the new Nexus had a corner damaged and some screen scratches.

For the second test, the three units were place on top of a clutter-free smooth-surfaced table and the tester gave them a simultaneous push. Only the iPad mini slid all the way down the floor, while the two Nexuses went halfway, its sliding slowed down by the matte and textured panel on its back cover.

In the third test, the three tablets were placed for a few minutes in a pan with water. After they were retrieved, the iPad mini became mute, losing its audio, while the new Google device had sound, but the old version did not have audio right away.

The new Nexus 7 sells for $229 for the 16GB version and $269 for the 32 GB model. If these units were to be provided warranty by Square Table for two years, it would cost the device owner $59.99
