The trailer of the most-anticipated musical drama television series of 2016 “The Get Down” has been finally unveiled. Created by Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan in association with Netflix, this period drama musical has been scheduled to premiere later in 2016.

“The Get Down” will be the first TV show by Australian director, Baz Luhrmann. The show is based in the era of the late 70s and has been set in the city of Bronx. The show focuses on the adventures of the teenagers based in South Bronx.

Interestingly, Netflix had previously announced that it will air the show in nearly 130 countries. The release of this teaser has increased the curiosity of fans as the show is amongst the most high-profile shows from Netflix’s Pandora box.

“The pale faced media tells us we’re all going to hell. But maybe we’re just the first ones to light the fire,” says a voice in the background in the trailer.

Reportedly, Luhrmann has been working on this show for nearly 10 years now.

“I’ve been obsessed with the idea of how a city in its lowest moment, forgotten and half destroyed, could give birth to such creativity and originality in music, art and culture. I’m thrilled to be working with my partners at Sony and collaborating with a team of extraordinary writers and musicians, many of whom grew up with and lived the story we’ve set out to tell,” Variety quoted Luhrmann as saying during an interview in February.

Luhrmann is known for his exceptional contribution to the industry in the form of great flicks like “Moulin Rouge” and “The Great Gatsby.” “The Get Down” depicts the era of music when hip-hop culture was on a budding stage and was being born in the New York borough.

“The Get Down” cast includes Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Tremaine Browne Jr and Skylan Brooks in lead roles and is expected to hit the screens in the autumn this year.
