Perth Wildcats cruised further for the sixth NBL championship after defeating Adelaide by 92-85 in the opening Grand Final match held at Perth.

The Wildcats have conceded 75 points after the win and have reached the top in the chart.

An eclectic performance by James Ennis (19) and Jermaine Bell (19) helped the team to take 1-0 lead in the best-of-three-series tournament. Greg Hire, vice-captain of Cats, also added 10 points and seven rebounds to finally secure the match.

Adam Gibson, Adelaide's skipper, also fought back valiantly and finished with 13 points and 9 assists before fouling out. Leading player Daniel Johnson finished with 18 points, Brendon Teys on 14, while Adam Gibson was on 13 points.

Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson was emphatic after the win.

"We knew that (Adelaide) was going to come at us, and I was pretty pleased with the resilience they showed there to get the win ... We've certainly got to keep the ball movement and attacking the rim. James was sensational attacking the rim tonight," Gleeson added.

36ers coach Joey Wright was displeased on the critical errors made by the players.

"If (Ennis) can play 37 minutes, don't foul, and shoot 17 free throws, we can't stop him ... If he can play that many minutes and don't foul, and get fouled every time you breathe on him, we can't stop him ... There was a whole country watching this game. As impartial as I or anybody else tries to be, it was on TV tonight," Wright said.

The visitors looked promising as they were constantly trying to push further ahead of Perth, but time must have a stop.

"We knew they weren't going to roll over ... We know these guys are going to come at us, and I was pleased with the resilience we showed out there ... That crowd was unbelievable. When it started rocking, I was going to go, 'shhh, we're shooting foul shots', but it's fantastic," Wright said.

The Wildcats also received 47 free throws, which was one major issue that concerned Wright.

"I'm at a loss ... They got 31 of their 92 points from the line. We can do a better job at that, or some other people can do a better job ... They did a better job at going after those boards, and their pushes didn't seem to be the same as our pushes," Wright stated.
