The Oklahoma City Thunder's failure advance to the NBA Finals for the second straight season could prompt its front office to pull off a huge offseason deal, and according to Sports Illustrated insider Boomer Isiason, Tyson Chandler could up for the taking.

According to the veteran NBA analyst, the Thunder should not panic despite another postseason setback, because the future remains brighter for a team that features superstars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

With the Spurs probably making their final shot at the NBA championship in the next two weeks, the Thunder are still in position to make some noise in the Western Conference for the next four to five years, if they can keep the core intact.

Durant, coming off an MVP season, is expected to sharpen further his game, while Westbrook will become more unstoppable attacking the rim, barring major another major injury.

Serge Ibaka will continue to be a force as the league's finest rim protector, while an improved offensive game by the big man guarantees a more potent offense for the Thunder.

Then again, Isiason stressed the Thunder needs another player who can play on both ends of the floor. Kendrick Perkins is no doubt one of the best post defenders out there, but his lack of offensive skills set made him a liability for the Thunder, whose offense predictably run through Durant and Westbrook for the last four seasons.

The Sports Illustrated analyst believed the Thunder top-honchos should make a run for Chandler, who is coming off a disappointing season with the Knickerbockers. The former Defensive Player of the Year averaged 8.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game last season.

Chandler, who played a crucial role for the Dallas Mavericks in their championship run in 2011, expressed his disappointment about the team's lack of movement towards forming a championship-caliber team. Many analysts sensed Chandler might be asking to get out of the Knickerbockers, if there's certainly the team can compete for the title right away.

For Isiason, Chandler is a perfect center for the Thunder because he provides toughness and athleticism in the position. The combination of Chandler and Ibaka would easily take the Thunder's defense to another level, making it tougher for opposing teams to score inside.

Pulling off the Deal

The Thunder's chance to get Chandler would depend on the Knicks' attempt to retain Carmelo Anthony this summer. If Anthony bolts out, the Knicks are expected to unload all their big contracts, as they wait for another year to sign big-time free-agents in the summer of 2015.

If that scenario happens, the Thunder can send the expiring contract of Kendrick Perkins, Jeremy Lamb, and perhaps a late first-round or second round pick for the service of the shot-blocking bigman.
