NBA News: Klay Thompson, David Lee, First-Round Pick to Minnesota Timberwolves For Kevin Love Offered

The Golden State Warriors have sweetened up their trade package for Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love, as they added shooting guard Klay Thompson to their offer, according to a reliable source on Thursday.

According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Warriors made a bold move in their pursuit of adding Love by offering Thompson, a young shooting guard with superstar potential.

In three seasons, Thompson has drastically improved his statistical line, and is just coming off a great 2013-14 campaign, where he averaged a career-high 18.4 points, 2.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.

The Warriors were previously hesitant to include the 24-year old Thompson to any trade negotiations, but the team's top-brass realized they have to better their package for them to have a shot at Love, who is considered by many as the finest power-forward in the game right now.

"ESPN sources say Golden State has indeed made Klay Thompson available to Wolves, greatly increasingly Warriors' hopes of getting Kevin Love," according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

"If the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to maximize the return they get when they eventually trade Kevin Love, the move has to happen around the draft or before free agency begins.

Mychal Thompson revealed in his latest interview on ESPN Los Angeles 710 about the Warriors' plan to trade Thompson, David Lee and first-round pick for Love and veteran shooting guard Kevin Martin. And according to Lakers Nation, the deal is nearing completion, perhaps at draft night.

"Klay, David Lee and a future first is what I'm hearing from a very reliable source, for the Kevins, Love and Martin, coming back to Golden State."

Zach Harper of CBS Sports believed the Wolves have to deal Love on or before the trade deadline to get the best possible trade offers available.

"Once teams start filling their rosters with free agents and taking on money, the Wolves will have fewer and fewer teams bidding in trade negotiations to sway Minnesota's interest. If the Wolves end up waiting until the trade deadline to move Love, the return will be at its lowest possible value," according to Harper.

Love, who averaged 26.1 points and 12.5 board for the Timberwolves last season, can opt out from his contract and become a free-agent next summer.
