After 11 years and two children together, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber have decided to end their relationship. The split is coming as a shock to the public, as both actors were seen together at last month’s Toronto International Film Festival.

"Over the past few months we've come to the conclusion that the best way forward for us as a family is to separate as a couple,” the two said in a joint statement released to the media. “It is with great love, respect and friendship in our hearts that we look forward to raising our children together and exploring this new phase of our relationship.

“While we appreciate your curiosity and support, we ask the press to be mindful of our children and respect their right to privacy."

Watt and Schreiber have never been married but started to date in 2005. Together, they have two sons, Alexander “Sasha” Pete, 9, and Samuel “Sammy” Kai, 7.

The news of their split has come as a shock to the general public, not just because of how long the two actors have been together, but also because they have still been very affectionate with each other.

The two constantly showed each other off on their separate Instagram accounts.

At this year’s Academy Awards, Liev brought his older son as his date. But even then, Watts shared an adorable photo of her two men getting ready together.

They last stepped out together at the Toronto Film Festival on Sept. 10, where they premiered their new drama, “The Bleeder.” The week prior to that, the two also appeared at the Venice Film Festival together.

“The Bleeder” is a biological film about the life of Chuck Wepner, who is portrayed by Liev. More specifically, the film follows Wepner as he prepares to battle against Muhammad Ali. Watts portrays Wepner’s third wife in the film.
