Their relationship started off with plenty of gossip and media attention, but after six kids and a wedding, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt seemed to be a match made in Hollywood-heaven. But now each actor is blaming the other in what could be the beginning of an ugly custody battle.

TMZ reports that Angelina filed the divorce papers on Monday and cited irreconcilable differences. However, the publication goes on to claim that the real reason for the split is that the 41-year-old actress is fed up with Brad's substance and alcohol abuse. The date of separation on file is Sept. 15.

Reportedly, the 52-year-old “Fury” actor would consume alcohol and weed to an extent that raised Angelina’s fears. What further fuelled her worries is that Brad apparently has an anger problem, which his supposed drug and alcohol dependency would only worsen.

Angelina’s entertainment attorney, Robert Offer, confirms that the “Maleficent” actress officially filed for divorce “for the health of the family.” She will be fighting for sole physical custody of their six children -- Maddox (15), Pax (12), Zahara (11), Shiloh (10), and twins Knox and Vivienne (8) -- but will allow for joint legal custody and visitation rights. She will also not be demanding spousal support.

TMZ is also claiming that Brad is furious about Angelina’s allegations. In particular, he believes that spinning private stories, which make him seem dangerous, poses a risk to their family. The father-of-six reportedly wanted the divorce to be handled quietly.

However, Brad does know who his priorities are. "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids," he said in a statement to People Magazine. "I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

Angelina and Brad first started to date in 2004 after working together on the set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” In 2014, they had a very intimate marriage ceremony, which all six of their children attended.
