“My Kitchen Rules” has a new record holder. WA workmates Eva and Debra have well and truly redeemed themselves on Tuesday night after receiving the show’s all-time high score. They beat season 5 twins Helena and Vikki and season 3’s Nic and Rocco’s previously unbeatable tied score of 95.

During the second round, the girls only got 46 from the judges and the guests. They admitted they didn’t have any concrete plan then. They showed poor skills in the kitchen and had made damaging choices that spelt disaster in the end. For the Redemption Round, though, they learnt from all their mistakes and vowed to do a lot better this time.

And do a lot better they did! What’s more was that they didn’t just do better than their previous work, they did the best in the show’s history so far.

The diminutive girls once again set up their Instant Restaurant, “Spice Market,” aiming to showcase their Asian culture to their Australian guests, who noticed how short Eva and Debra are. The “tiny pocket rockets,” as Sherri called them, definitely impressed everyone at the table enough to temporarily postpone the teams’ strategic scoring.

At the bottom of the leader board, Kat and Andre were still mulling over the scores they got from the other teams. They did well with their entrée and dessert, and both Pete Evans and Manu Feildel scored them a high 8 for each. However, their main dish was a let-down. Still, they thought perhaps one or all of the other teams scored them badly as strategy. Their anger was mostly directed at their fellow first group team Annie and Lloyd, who were at the bottom before then.

Entrée: Prawn Cakes with Peanut and Lime Dipping Sauce

“This entrée is ridiculous… ridiculously good!” Manu said, scaring off Eva and Debra before giving them his praises. He was successful in that regard; he made the girls cry of relief.

“No! Get out!” an incredulous Debra quipped to Manu, who also returned her banter, “No, you get out!”

Pete also commended the dish for being simple yet having full of flavours. “I could eat this every day,” he told the girls.

The guests agreed, with Emma declaring that was the best dish she had in the competition, and Annie claiming it was the best prawn cake she ever had.

Main: Keralan Fish Molee with Lemon Rice

“Worse comes to worst, I don’t think it’s a 9 or 10. If it’s a 5 or 6, I’m cool with that,” Eva said, expecting a mediocre score from the judges for their main dish. She messed up the cooking a bit, and was worried that it didn’t taste as good as how her mother used to make it. She would find out later that she’s wrong.

“It’s actually better than the entrée,” Pete said of the dish. “It is brilliant.”

“Holy molee!” Manu exclaimed, adding that the fish was simply fantastic.

The other teams pretty much echoed the chefs’ sentiments, praising the main dish as perfect. However, Kat found fault in it, saying her fish was undercooked. She found a temporary ally with Nikki, who agreed about the fish being inconsistent.

Dessert: Kulfi with Rosewater Syrup, Pistachios and Jelly

Admitting from the start that dessert wasn’t their strong point, Eva and Debra still tried to introduce kulfi to their guests. Kulfi, as Eva described it, is an ice cream unlike the commercial kind that people are used to eating in Western countries. The frozen dairy dessert from South Asia is denser and creamier than the usual kind. With their guests being unfamiliar with kulfi, they might not like it at all.

Even though the menu specifically mentioned including jelly, the girls decided against putting it on the plate when the jelly didn’t come out as perfect as they would like. The absence of the aforementioned jelly was not lost to the guests.

“Where’s the jelly?” Manu asked them. Eva and Debra then explained that the simplicity of the plate was already perfect as is. “You’ve been listening,” Manu lauded them for learning their lessons. He thought it was enjoyable, but he wasn’t sure about the dessert’s texture.

Pete also thought it was delicious. “What a beautiful way to finish a three-course meal.”

Again, Kat didn’t like the dessert. Nevertheless, there were those who liked it, while some loved it.

Scores

Also for the first time in the show’s history, one team has scored another a perfect 10. Sherri and Emilie, who were from the second group as Eva and Debra, gave the host team a deserving perfect score. The other teams were also fair. Setting aside their scoring strategy for a moment, they all gave Eva and Debra high scores. The teams gave them a combined score of 43 out of 50.

Pete and Manu also thought the girls deserved high scores. Both of them gave their entrée and main dishes a 10 each, which meant the petite workmates got four 10s, the most perfect scores in the season. That’s when the 10s have ended. Pete gave them an 8 for their dessert, while Manu scored it a 7.

Overall, the girls’ score was 98, not only the highest in season 6, but the highest in the show’s history. The only teams that got that close were Helena and Vikki from season 5 and Nic and Rocco from season 2.

How the others scored Eva and Debra:

Jane & Emma: 8
Annie & Lloyd: 8
Katie & Nikki: 9
Kat & Debra: 8
Sherri & Emilie: 10
