Miss Universe pageant is not just about women and the parade of external beauty. It serves a greater purpose in society and a contest with a substance in itself.

"Philanthropy is involved with basic innovations that transform society, not simply maintaining the status quo or filling basic social needs that were formerly the province of the public sector," David Rockefeller, an American philanthropist said.

The Miss Universe's integral role is the charitable platform battling the cause against HIV/AIDS epidemic. Along with empowering women and giving them a voice, the pageant is involved with many charitable works globally. Over the last decade, every Miss Universe winner has traveled the world supporting many causes with focus on spreading awareness for HIV/AIDS prevention, HIV testing, and access to medical care.
