Coders Rest In The Office Of Swedish Company Mojang In Stockholm
Coders rest in the Mojang company office in Stockholm January 21, 2013. A pool table, a pinball machine, board games and Lego dot the offices of Mojang, the small Swedish company behind the wildly popular Minecraft video game, and one of its founders is wearing a tuxedo and purple tie on a recent "formal Friday". The atmosphere reflects the independent spirit that has contributed to the raw identity of the game that has just sold 20 million copies. The founders want to keep it that way. Mojang, the Swedish word for gadget, has so far resisted selling to a bigger player or listing on the stock market even though that could mean monster payoffs for the 25-person staff and funding to expand dramatically its games. The lack of update over at Mojang's famous blog may be due to the busy schedule of closing the $2.5 billion deal that the company had just closed with Microsoft for the long-standing and popular building game "Minecraft." This was made official by Xbox head Phil Spencer via Twitter.

It’s official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family. We're excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community.

The tweet above, and the fact that Mojang is now part of Microsoft, should not be a cause of worry to "Minecraft" fans who are on other platforms. Polygon reports that despite Mojang's transition from independent studio to a first-party developer for Microsoft does not mean that "Minecraft" will become an Xbox-only game.

However, this does not mean that any updates for "Minecraft" has not progressed since the deal started to run behind the scenes. Developer for "Minecraft" on the consoles, 4J Studios, has been providing snapshots of updates to fans.

To celebrate Halloween, the team teased the PS Vita alongside plushie bats and a pumpkin. Of course, fans started to try spotting what will be added to the platform. It appears that the clearly depicted Emerald Sword is there, as well as the wither boss and the witches.

The most recent snapshot tease involves fireworks, which is expected to debut with the "Minecraft TU18." Seen in the link here, the new feature is expected to debut for all of the consoles in the next update.

Looking more closely at the snapshot, Inquisitr reports that there is the Firework Rocket and Firework Star meant for crafting. Fireworks, which are already in the PC version of "Minecraft," is meant only to either scare mobs or explode in the sky.

There have already been a number of teases for the upcoming "Minecraft TU18," including the addition of horses, the redstone and beacons. There is still no specific date as to when 4J Studios plans to release the update.

While waiting though, there's another way to enjoy "Minecraft," and that's through the upcoming LEGO set, which will be released this month. As a tease for that, Geek spotted a YouTube video that shows off one of the sets, 21118, The Mine, which is the biggest set in the series. There will be 922 pieces in total to build with and its price tag is at $109.99.

According to the source, the great thing about the set is players can set it up depending on how they want its orientation to be. They can even expand their creations by snapping in other modules from the collection. As a bonus, players can enjoy the minecart, which moves seamlessly except for turning corners. Check out the video tease below.
