Miguel Cotto has said that he will not be sitting ringside to watch the fight of the century between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Cotto, who suffered losses from both fighters, will neither be on Mayweather’s or Pacquiao’s box because he will be busy training for his next fight on May 2.

“I won’t be at the fight,” Cotto was quoted saying in an article by Boxing Scene. “I’ll be training for my fight.”

While people continue to give their predictions for the outcome of the super fight, Cotto kept mum on the topic of who he thinks will have an edge to win on May 2. Having had fought Mayweather (2012) and Pacquiao (2009), there couldn’t have been any other fighter who can best give his forecast about the fight other than Cotto.

The four-division world champion said that both fighters should know what to do. However, he insisted that the world will witness a great fight on the night of the event.

Cotto was slated to square off with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez also on May 2 but he reportedly did not accept the fight. Some say that Cotto was eyeing for a rematch with Mayweather as he was one of the top contenders alongside Amir Khan for the undefeated American fighter should the Pacquiao fight fail to materialise.

When asked about his thoughts on missing an opportunity on a rematch with Mayweather, Cotto said he wasn’t bothered at all adding that it is the time for the American to fight Pacquiao now. Cotto lost to Mayweather via 12-round unanimous decision in 2012. Following his defeat from Mayweather, Cotto suffered another loss to Austin Trout.

Since his back-to-back losses in 2012, Cotto has been working his way back up. He has won his last two fights against Delvin Rodriguez and Sergio Martinez, whom he fought in 2013 and 2014, respectively.

British boxer Amir Khan has already offered Cotto a fight in either April or May. Khan has said that he is willing to fight Cotto at a catch-weight of 155, but the Puerto Rican boxing icon has not commented on Khan’s call.

Cotto targets a return to the boxing ring in April or June. His opponent is yet to be named.
