From the time Microsoft introduced the 2-in-1 Surface Pro 3, the Surface series of tablets has apparently been on an upward growth trajectory. To top it off, the tech giant has recently released Surface 3 and the upcoming Surface Pro 4 release date is expected to be towards the end of 2015. Meanwhile, the latest news is that, the upcoming Surface Pro 4 will be launched at the annual Build developer conference scheduled in April.

According to the credible news site DigiTimes, Microsoft is planning to ship more than 4 million Surface tablets in 2015. This figure is apparently up from 2 million Surface units shipped in 2014. And Digitimes site has reportedly got this information from an upstream supply chain source. On the other hand, the Surface Pro 4 is expected to enter mass production sometime in June. And if the reports are true, the device will be released alongside Windows 10 during the second half of 2015.

Furthermore, Microsoft has reportedly shipped a total of 12 million Surface tablet units with a significant sales boost from the Surface Pro 3, the tablet that can double as a laptop. To be specific, the sales pertaining to the fourth quarter of 2014 apparently rose to nearly 24 percent when compared to the same time-frame a year back.

According to the same source, the shipments of Surface series of devices will exceed 15 million units in 2015, which is a 30 percent improvement from last year. In any case, market watchers are reportedly wary of the fact that Surface line-up could cut down other vendors' interest to launch Windows-based tablets in the near future.

When it comes to key Surface Pro 4 specifications and features, a “digital styles pen” is speculated to be part of the upcoming device. On the software front, the Pro 4 will reportedly be the first tablet to run on the new Windows 10 OS. However, just in case, the Pro 4 fails to house the Windows 10 by a whisker, the tablet will still be upgradable to the new version, notes VCPost.

With respect to the memory configuration, the device is expected to come equipped with 16 GB to 1 TB of built-in storage capacities. Moreover, the fifth-generation Intel core Broadwell SoC will reportedly be taking over the hardware unit occupied by Haswell processor, so as to exert strong system performance, notes the same site. Nonetheless, the tech giant has not confirmed the Surface Pro 4 specifications thus far.

In the meantime, Microsoft's Surface 3 tablet is believed to be made available in May. Speaking of Surface 3 price, the tablet will reportedly set the buyers back by $499.
