- Red John kills again. This time, the victim has a link to Patrick Jane's past.

- Patrick Jane is able to narrow down his list of suspects to only seven names.

- "Just Shoot Me" star Laura San Giacomo guest stars as Miriam Gottlieb, a social worker.

- Emmanuelle Chriqui returns as Lorelei Martins.

- The season finale will herald a next-level hunt for Red John. "By the end of the season and into next season, the hunt for Red John becomes real. And names will be named," The Mentalist EP Daniel Cerone was quoted by TV Line as saying.

- Mentalist writer Tom Szentgyorgyi has earlier said the upcoming finale will "completely change the hunt for Red John." The viewers, Tom said, will "know some very specific things about who [Red John] might be."

- The Mentalist Season 5 finale is written by series creator Bruno Heller and directed by Chris Long.
