“The Expendables” star Mel Gibson is directing another film 10 years after his action film “Apocalypto.” Recently, “Hacksaw Ridge” actor Luke Bracey shared his experience of working with Gibson.

Directed by Gibson, “Hacksaw Ridge” is a biopic about World War II American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss played by former “The Amazing Spider-Man” star Andrew Garfield. The movie was filmed in Australia and stars several Australian actors including Bracey, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving, Matt Nable, Teresa Palmer and Rachel Griffiths, among others.

“The movie’s going to be pretty sick,” The Wrap quoted Bracey as saying. “Mel Gibson is a genius. It’s an amazing story, a true story. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it. You can’t make this stuff up.”

Bracey plays Smitty Ryker in “Hacksaw Ridge,” which is set to be released in 2016. The character is the alpha of the platoon that Garfield’s character belongs to. Before “Hacksaw Ridge” hits theaters, Bracey will star in “Point Break.” Set to be released in Australia on Jan. 1, 2016, the action film was directed by Ericson Core with Mic Rodgers as the second unit director.

Both Core and Rodgers have worked with Gibson. Core was the cinematographer of “Payback,” which starred Gibson, while Rodgers was Gibson’s second unit director in “Braveheart” as well as in “Hacksaw Ridge.”

In an interview with Us Weekly, Bracey said he talked to Core and Rodgers and they told him about Gibson so he had an idea of what he was going to run into. He added that the “Hacksaw Ridge” director is one of the most intelligent people he has ever met.

Gibson just knows “everything about anything,” according to Bracey. For the Australian actor, working with "The Expendables" actor as the “Hacksaw Ridge” director was an experience not many people get and an absolute privilege, so he felt really lucky.

The screenplay of “Hacksaw Ridge” was written by Andrew Knight, Robert Schenkkan and Randall Wallace. Other cast members include Vince Vaughn, Firass Dirani, Ryan Corr, Goran D. Keut, Benedict Hardie, Luke Pegler, James Mackay, Robert Morgan and Milo Gibson.
