The Motorola DROID Turbo was released in October, whereas the Meizu MX4 was released in September. Readers who are interested in the Motorola DROID Turbo or the Meizu MX4 should check out this comparison.

Display, Design And Size

Motorola's DROID Turbo smartphone features a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED display with 1,440 x 2,560 pixels Quad HD resolution. This combination translates to a pixel density of 565 ppi. The Meizu MX4, meanwhile, comes with a 5.36-inch IPS LCD display complemented by 1,152 x 1,920 pixels resolution. The pixel density is 418 ppi.

When it comes to design, the Meizu MX4 sports a slightly rounded back panel and therefore reportedly provides good grip and feels comfortable on the hands. Meizu has cut down the unnecessary bezels surrounding the screen, which gives a clean-cut look to the handset. In addition to the soft plastic chassis, the MX4 comes with a metal frame covering the handset, an impressive feature in the aesthetics department. Additionally, the power and volume buttons are also made of metal. In general, the exterior design elevates the promising handset to a whole new level, notes Phone Arena.

The DROID device, on the other hand, has taken the battery issues dominating the current-generation devices seriously and left no stones unturned to make its battery stand out. The Turbo houses a killer 3,900 mAh battery unit that has the capacity to provide up to 2 days of battery life. The DROID's battery unit is reportedly 1,000 mAh+ more than the iPhone 6 Plus configuration and roughly 800 mAh more than the Galaxy Note 4. In terms of design, the device looks identical to the Moto X with the same plastic chassis, Mashable notes.

In terms of size, the thickness and weight of Meizu's flagship handset are 0.35 inches and 147 g respectively, while the Turbo is 0.31-inch thick and weighs 169 g. Thus, the MX4 is comparatively lighter, whereas the DROID device is relatively thinner.

Hardware, Software And Memory

Motorola DROID Turbo is powered by the latest quad-core (Snapdragon 805) Krait 450 processor, clocked at 2.7 GHz, complete with Adreno 420 for graphics. The Meizu MX4, meanwhile, is powered by an octa-core (MediaTek MT6595) SoC, clocked at a combination of four 2.2 GHz Cortex-A17 and extra four 1.7 GHz Cortex-A7 cores, in addition to PowerVR G6200 MP4 GPU. Moreover, the Motorola handset is backed by a solid 3 GB of RAM, while the MX4 settles for 2 GB.

On the software side, the DROID device runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS similar to the Meizu MX4. However, a planned upgrade to Lollipop is in the offing for both devices. According to a new report from GizChina, Meizu is already working to upgrade its MX4 to Android v5.0.

In terms of memory, while the Motorola handset is equipped with 32 GB and 64 GB of storage, the Meizu MX4 comes with 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB of storage space. Since the devices already feature bigger internal storage capacity, both do not support microSD card.

Camera And Battery

The DROID Turbo features an impressive 21 MP rear-facing camera unit with dual-LED flash and 4K video support. On the other hand, the Meizu MX4 comes with a similar 20.7 MP primary unit with dual-LED flash and 4K video support. Additionally, there is also a 2 MP secondary snapper for selfies on both handsets.

As far as the battery configuration goes, the Turbo pulls ahead with a solid 3,900 mAh unit on board, while the Meizu MX4 houses a relatively inferior 3,100 mAh unit. While the Motorola handset can provide up to 48 hours of talk time and 675 hours of standby time, the data for the Meizu handset is unknown at this point.

Additional Features

1. Although the smartphones do not come with water- or dust-resistant body, the Turbo comes with water-resistive coating. With this coating, the handset can survive accidental splashes. Nonetheless, leaving the phone underwater for a longer period of time would damage it permanently.

2. The DROID Turbo features an aggressive design synonymous with other DROID handsets complete with Kevlar-like finish. Plus, Motorola offers two back panel options: metallic fibre-glass design and ballistic nylon design made of military grade material, Android Authority reports. The DROID device also comes in Metallic Red and Metallic Black, whereas the Meizu MX4 is available in Gray, Gold and White.

3. While the Motorola device supports wireless charging and NFC, the MX4 doesn't. Also, the Turbo uses nano-SIM, whereas the MX4 supports micro-SIM. Both devices support 4G LTE connectivity. Nevertheless, the LTE frequencies pertaining to the U.S. are not covered by Meizu at this point, notes Phone Arena.

Price

The 32 GB variant of the Motorola DROID Turbo can be purchased for US$199, whereas the 64 GB version is available for US$249 under a Verizon contract. Readers should note that Verizon is offering a free one-time screen replacement for the purchased handset, according to Android Authority. Meanwhile, the outright price of the 32 GB model is US$599 (AU$690). The 16 GB version of Meizu MX4, on the other hand, can be purchased for US$449 (AU$517).
