Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, just updated his status to "married." The young billionaire and his longtime girlfriend got married in a private ceremony at his home in Palo Alto, California over the weekend.

They have both studied in Harvard and have been together for nine years. And just last Saturday, Mark Zuckerberg and girlfriend Priscilla Chan tied the knot in a private and modest event in California.

For a man who has billions of dollars, some people would expect a grand wedding. But since Zuckerberg has always been low-key with his lifestyle and private life, it wouldn't be a surprise if he chose a rather simple wedding.

A spokesperson of Facebook Inc. said that guests arrived at the event believing it was a celebration for Pricilla Chan's graduation from medical school. She just recently finished school on May 14 at the University of California, San Francisco. Upon their arrival, it was revealed to them that they were attending a wedding instead. Their wedding ceremony had fewer than 100 in attendance.

Zuckerberg and Chan have spent 4 months planning the wedding but did not reveal to anyone that they were engaged. The only announcement came from his Facebook page when he changed his relationship status to "married."

It is unconfirmed if the two signed a prenuptial agreement in order to protect Zuckerberg's fortune in the event they break up. The Facebook founder also invited Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong to entertain their guests.

Mark Zuckerberg chose to let the whole world know of his current civil status using the sole thing that made him one of today's most powerful men. He posted "married Pricilla Chan" along with a picture as a life event on May 19.
