The Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight may be finalised soon according to a Los Angeles Times report on Saturday. ESPN’s boxing beat writer, Dan Rafael is confirming the report and that he has a source, specifically stating that it’s not Bob Arum, boss of Top Rank Promotions, that makes him believe that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight may soon agree on a fight.

Rafael, who is considered one of the most respected boxing scribes today, tweeted the update on Saturday.

Dont know if MP-FM makes but heard details 2day from some1 who knows (not Arum)exactly wassup that for 1st time makes me think legit chance.

The L.A. Times article stated that there is no final agreement on the purse split although Mayweather is demanding at least 60 per cent of the money and that Pacquiao is willing to meet that demand. It also mentioned that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight may be finalised in seven to ten days as the site’s source said “the calendar is a factor”. According to the same report, both sides have already agreed on the venue of the fight, the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and the drug-testing conditions for both fighters.

The target date is apparently May or June 2015 and as per Mayweather himself, the American wants specifically the May 2, 2015 date. If the Cinco de Mayo weekend date will be taken by Mayweather-Pacquiao, it will most likely move the planned Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez bout to a later date in 2015.

In Rafael’s ESPN column last Jan. 7, 2015, the boxing writer put the Mayweather-Pacquiao on top of his “New Year’s wishes for 2015” article.

“At the risk of repeating myself, Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Fight or don't. It has been six years. Enough.” Rafael wrote in the column. Mayweather and Pacquiao both have been silent on social media the past few days, opposite of what happened in previous weeks when both fighters went at each other.
