The entire Marvel Universe fandom was star struck when Lucy Lawless was announced to join "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Lawless is mostly known for the '90s TV show "Xena: Warrior Princess" where she played the lead character, since then, she was in shows like "Battlestar Galactica," "Spartacus" and "Parks and Recreation."

She was born as Lucille Francess Ryan on March 29, 1968 in New Zealand. Her debut in acting was on a sketch comedy series entitled "Funny Business" after which she studied drama at the William Davis Centre for Actors Study in Vancouver.

However, the character that really made Lawless popular was a spin-off of Xena, a character originally made for the television series "Hercules."

It debuted on September 4, 1995 and became a hit lasting six seasons, making Lawless an international celebrity.

Two years after the success of "Xena: Warrior Princess," Lawless was named one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in World by People Weekly Magazine.

On that year, she also appeared on theatre for the Broadway Revival of "Grease," where she played the bad girl, Betty Rizzo.

Since becoming a contestant in "Celebrity Duets," she continued her singing career having back to back concerts and sold out tickets.

Lawless became a lesbian icon because of her character Xena, who had an ambiguous relationship with her travelling companion Gabrielle.

Despite being heterosexual, she supports gay advocate events such as the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Hollywood Life said the producers of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." haven't stated what role Lawless was playing, but fans seemed to be ecstatic about the news.

Lawless will be joining the star-studded casts of Clark Gregg, Ming Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Ian De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge.

Fans can ask more information about Lawless' new character to the producers at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, where they will be attending.
