Jessica Castro of “Married at First Sight” filed for a restraining order against Ryan De Nino, her husband. People started questioning the match making process of the show. Executive producer Chris Coelen clears the process.

“Married at First Sight” executive producer Coelen talked to People and shared how people are paired for the show. Coelen said that an “advanced casting team” is asked to visit certain places to look for single people.

According to Coelen, the men and women are treated the same way. They go to mixers, church groups, bars and singles events. “We also go on every dating site you could possibly think of – OkCupid, Match.com, Tinder, Hinge. We also go on Facebook, talk to family and friends and try to make the pool as big as possible,” he stated.

He also mentioned that apart from this method, another set of people are those who have watched the show. They apply voluntarily to be “considered as a candidate.”

Season 1 of the show got less than 1000 applicants while season 2 had more than 7000 applications from people who wanted to be a part of the show. Meanwhile, season 3 of the reality show received more than 20000 applications.

The potentials are called for the workshops and Coelen revealed that he “personally attend this and help run it.” He explained that they explain the group of 20 to 30 individuals on how things work. Coelen added that they are transparent with the participants.

Dr. Joseph Cilona, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Logan Levkoff and Greg Epstein also attend these workshops. They are the four experts. The “seriously interested” participants go through the process of background checks as well as psychological evaluations.

Two couples from the first season of the show are married – Cortney Hendrix and Jason Carrion, Doug Hehner and Jamie Otis will be a part of “Married at First Sight: The First Years.”
