In between refining Yahoo!'s vision and turning around the firm, new company Chief Executive Officer Marissa Mayer would also need to take a maternity leave a few weeks in October,

The 37-year-old executive tweeted on Thursday that she is expecting a baby boy in October with partner Zack Bogue, a venture capitalist.

"My maternity leave will be a few weeks long, and I'll work through it," AFP quoted the new Yahoo! CEO.

Ms Mayer's decision to pursue both a career and motherhood was celebrated in the cyberworld. Actress Mia Farrow said in her tweet that Ms Mayer would hopefully inspire companies to create better options for all working mothers.

Ms Mayer may not have broken corporate world record since another female and mother was appointed Yahoo! CEO before her, Carol Bartz who was fired in September 2011 for failing to turnaround the financially ailing Internet firm. She is one of 19 female CEOS in the Fortune 500 of top U.S. firms and some of them are mothers.

However, she is the first to be hired as CEO and just three months away from visiting the maternity ward. She was vice president at Google before Yahoo! announced this week her appointment as CEO.

U.S. federal laws mandate 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave for female employees in companies with at least 50 workers and has been with the firm for at least 12 months, making the United States the only Western nation with no paid maternity leave.

Ms Mayer has promised to stay in the rhythm of things while on maternity leave. Her comment, however, caught the attention of Diana Limongi, a New York mother and blogger about motherhood issue who uses the blog name LadydeeLG.

"To claim that she will be 'in the rhythm of her work'... is not acknowledging a reality we have to accept and come to terms with: babies need care, moms need time to heal and to be with their babies and that is OK," AFP quoted Ms Limongi's blog.

Before she reaches the nappy changing routine, Ms Mayer would need to revise the mission or vision statement of Yahoo! which is a carryover from Ms Bartz's era.
