Little did Maria Sharapova know that she will be in for a surprise during her match at Brisbane International. A young Queenslander apparently proposed to Sharapova prior the match. There was hardly any doubt that the World No. 2 is one of the nicest people on earth because she really said yes to her fan's wedding proposal.

Speaking to News.com.au, the 29-year-old Damian Torrie revealed that he had to take a brief pause for a deep breath before bellowing "Marry me, Maria Sharapova!" It was right before the match started. Mr. Torrie then said that he just bought a jeep, which reportedly sent the crowd at the Pat Rafter Arena bursting in laughter.

Sharapova was also nice to pose for a selfie with Mr. Torrie, which he later shared on Twitter. He said that he waited in the area where the players usually sign autographs for fans and she was nice and kind enough to not only sign his proposal but also pose a selfie with him. Mr. Torrie was quoted saying that Sharapova was "amazing."

Meanwhile, a fan made sure that Sharapova's boyfriend and fellow tennis athlete Grigor Dimitrov was informed, tweeting the picture to the Bulgarian athlete's account. Dimitrov, on the other hand, kept mum on the viral proposal.

It wouldn't be the first time that Sharapova has received a wedding proposal. During the 2014 World Cup, Sharapova saw a very unusual signage at the heat of her native home town Russia's match against Algiera. Four men holding up a signage that reads "Sharapova, will you marry me" were spotted on the TV screen. Sharapova caught the clip and shared it on Twitter.

Sharapova, who had a bye in the first round of the season-opening Women's Tennis Association, or WTA, event Brisbane International, defeated qualifier Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan. Sharapova won nine straight games in her second round match over Shvedova, 6-0, 6-1, on Jan. 6. She will face Carla Suarez-Navarro of Spain in the quarterfinals on Jan. 8, with Sharapova leading their head-to-head series, 2-1. It will be the fourth time that Sharapova and Suarez-Navarro will meet on professional tour.
