Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was named as Coach of the Year in the Dutch Sports Gala on Tuesday.

The 63-year-old mentor led Oranje to a third place finish in the World Cup, losing to Argentina on penalties in the semis after both sides still failed to score in extra-time, while putting on a clinic against hosts Brazil in their final match with a 3-0 scoreline.

In the Premier League, the one-time Champions League winner is steadily getting the most out of his charges after a poor start to the ongoing season. The Red Devils are now occupying third place with 31 points, winning six of their recent outings.

Robin van Persie was also a recipient of an award that evening, as his looped header against Spain during their opening match in Brazil was merited as Dutch Sports Moment of the Year.

Other awardees included Bayern Munich attacker Arjen Robben (Sportsman of the Year), F1 racer Max Verstappen (Young Talent Award), and speed skater Ireen Wust (Sportswoman of the Year).
