Man From Florida Chokes The Neck Of The Physician Assistant With A Stethescope Because Of Dispute Over Painkiller Prescription
A 52-year-old man in Englewood, Florida is reportedly facing assault charges for choking the throat of an on-duty physician assistant using a stethoscope. The incident happened in the absence of the doctor at the Sarasota Family Medical Walk-In Clinic in the 6800 block of South Tamiami Trail.
According to the investigating officer at the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, John Connelly visited the clinic to get his prescription for pain medication upgraded. However, the doctor was not available at the same time.
The on-duty physician assistant reportedly told the man he is not authorized to update or alter the doctor's prescription. This angered Connelly, after which he started to use a coarse language with the physician assistant, for which he was immediately asked to leave the clinic.
Connelly did leave the clinic at that moment, however, the dispute over the medication turned violent when the suspect returned to the building where the clinic was located and marched towards its back. He started looking for the same physician assistant in the clinic. Soon, Connelly allegedly grabbed the stethoscope hanging around the neck of the physician assistant and used it to choke the neck of the personnel at his doctor's office.
“Connolly then took the stethoscope, which was around Goldstein’s neck, and began choking him with it,” says the probable cause affidavit report.
A witness at the scene immediately pulled Connelly away from the physician assistant. Bruise marks were noticed around the neck of the man, who reportedly had trouble breathing during the attack. The Englewood resident was arrested soon after attacking the staff at the doctor's office. He is being held without bond, charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
