Investigators found a woman’s cadaver, believed to be that of the missing teacher Stephanie Scott, 70 kilometres near a national park roadway at 5 p.m. AEST on Friday. Authorities have yet to confirm whether the burnt body truly belonged to Scott, an English and drama teacher at Leeton High School.

Michael Rowan, superintendent from Griffith Local Area Command, said it was the police who spotted the body five metres away from a pathway in Cocoparra National Park. As to the exact location of the body, the police said it was on a “narrow strip of a bushland on the western side.”

Authorities have set up a crime scene within the vicinity and many forensic vans as well as police cars were spotted nearby. Several evidence markers were also planted on the area.

Rowan added he received queries a few days ago whether “there had been burning of the body.” Though the investigation continues, Rowan and the police believe the remains, which will be transported for forensic examination to Sydney, belong to Scott. Rowan assured the forensic experts can work on the examination soon and the results will be out thereafter.

Still In Shock

Before the discovery of a burnt body, Scott has been reported missing. She was supposed to marry Aaron Leeson-Wooley, her boyfriend of five years, on Saturday. Her tragic end has left the community in shock.

Rowan said the community has been supportive. There were people who came and prepared food for the police working on the case.

A Supposed Beautiful, Happy Saturday

Stephanie’s family invited friends, family and the public to join them in celebrating Stephanie’s life. They were at Leeton’s Mountford Park on Friday afternoon and the family and many others wore something yellow. Those who know Stephanie were encouraged by her family to bring their favourite memory of the former.

A statement posted on social media on Friday read that Saturday should have been the happiest day of Stephanie and Aaron’s lives. And to help them get through the difficult time, the family invited everyone to join them on Saturday for a lunchtime affair at Mountford Park, Leeton.

According to the police, on Easter Sunday, Scott was murdered by 24-year-old school janitor Vincent Stanford, who remains to be in custody. Both Scott and Stanford worked for the same school.
