Malala Yousafzai speaks after receiving her award during the Glamour Magazine Women of the Year event in New York, November 11, 2013.

A well-covered and confident Pakistani teenager the show at the Glamour Women of Year Awards. Malala Yousafzai did not need fancy clothes or colorful histrionics to grab the audience's attention. She outsmarted everyone from Lady Gaga to Barbra Streisand to Melinda Gates.

Young girls shouted "Love you, Malala!" off the balcony in Carnegie Hall. In turn, they got a flying kiss from Yousafzai who then went on to give one of the most heartfelt speeches of her life. The 16-year-old youth icon has already grabbed the attention of the world purely with her determination and grit to follow education, no matter what.

Nobody knew how much courage the young Pakistani girl had until she was shot in her head by Talibani gunmen as she refused to discontinue her studies. Yousafzai said the gun had no power as it could only kill. On the contrary, a pen can offer a person life, she added.

It seemed like that the crowd present at the award ceremony was not the only one who showed their unconditional appreciation for Yousafzai. Lady Gaga expressed her wish that she would have been happier if the cover of the magazine featured Yousafzai instead of her. She said she would forfeit the magazine cover to Yousafzai if she could. Gaga also mentioned that she found her beauty on the magazine cover looked artificial.

Barbra Streisand was given the lifetime achievement award. She said she was happy to have been born with a singing voice which helped her speak out and make her opinions heard.

The honorees, along with other guests and presenters of the show, moved for a private dinner at the Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel. It definitely looked like a pretty rare occasion when Gaga approached Yousafzai to take photos together. Supermodel Iman said she wished that young girls had known more of Malala and less of the Kardashians.
