English actress and model, Elizabeth Hurley urged awareness about breast cancer among women on Sky News. She spoke about the reasons behind why she campaigns for breast cancer awareness. She is the global ambassador for the Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.

Hurley in her interview spoke of her grandmother's battle with cancer, stating that if her grandmother was unaware of the disease and that is why she lost her life in 1992. Mail Online reported that the reason why the actress seeks to spread awareness about the disease is so that she can help more women and save their lives. Hurley told Sky News that her grandmother found a lump in her breast but due to a lack of awareness on breast cancer she did not inform the doctor about it. She was too scared and at that time talking it, "was still a taboo subject," she stated.

The 49 year old actress stated that her grandmother lost her life due to the lack of knowledge about the disease in those times when her grandmother lived. She called that period as the, "dark ages of breast cancer."

Hurley has always made it a point to tell people about the disease and the ways to keep a check on it. In April she had posted on twitter

After 40 you should have an annual mammogram. Had mine this morning. It's always nerve wracking but remember..... pic.twitter.com/rhDcNtabyF

She told ITV's This Morning that now the times have changed and there is more awareness, people talk about the disease, there are pink ribbons and magazines too have pink months. Speaking of her Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign she said that it helps those with the disease to share their stories and those who have lost their loved ones to the disease can also tell their experiences. She also threw light on how breast cancer not only affects the person diagnosed but also those around the person. Friends, family, loved ones also go through the trauma as they all come together to help the person get through the horrific phase.

According to TheRecord.com she told The Times in an interview that ignorance about breast cancer had angered her. She explained that if the disease was detected at an early stage and proper medication is given, there is a 95 per cent chance of recovery for the patient. Hurley has always tried to spread awareness among women among the things related to breast cancer.
