VH1 Divas is back this year and ready to celebrate some soul. Announced on Thursday, Oct.27, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson, Mary J Blige, Florence and the Machine, Jill Scott and Jessie J will perform for the long-running concert event to be aired on Dec. 19 ET.

For this year the VH1 will celebrate the prominent birthplaces of soul music which includes Memphis, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, and London. Blige and other artists are expected to perform in their own soulful tracks to pay tribute o these places.

The concert will be held at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. Apart from the ladies the Roots also confirmed to be the house band.

"This year's telecast will showcase the vast impact soul music has had on the 21st century's music and pop culture landscape as our talented and diverse lineup will attest. This year's Divas offers a modern twist on soul music, all while tipping its hat to the legacy of key cities that created this musical heritage," VH1's Lee Rolontz said.

Further announcements and additional performers regarding the event are expected to be out in the coming weeks.

"Super stoked to announce that I am performing at #VH1DIVAS!!" Clarkson took it out on Twitter to share her excitement. This will be the "American Idol" winner's second appearance. Her first was on a comeback ceremony back 2009 with Adele and Miley Cyrus.
