Birthdays are supposed to be the time of the year when everyone gives you presents, but not for Katy Perry. Instead of asking or receiving presents, the singer opted to celebrate her birthday by giving back.

"For my b-day I have set up a donation page @http://www.aspca.org/katyperry The voice for ANIMALS! Give if you can!" she tweeted from her account.

Perry and husband Russell Brand spent a pre-birthday weekend celebration at a Manhattan's Dream Hotel. The couple reportedly drank non-alcoholic drinks and requested bananas from room service.

On Saturday, the couple visited Occupy Wall Street, biked along New York City's Zuccotti Park and met up with Russell Simmons afterwards.

This year has been great to Perry, who is nominated for the category Artist of the Year for the coming "American Music Awards" with fellow nominees Adele, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Lil Wayne. At the 2011 MTV Music Awards, Perry was nominated for 10 awards which was by far the most number among any other nominees that night.
