Liam Payne receives backlash from One Direction fans over smoking selfie
Liam Payne’s recent Instagram photo received mixed reactions from his fans after he shared it on Sunday. The One Direction singer posted a photo of him holding a cigarette while aboard a private jet.
The black and white photo shows Payne, dressed in a plaid shirt and wearing a fedora, holding a smoked cigarette. The singer didn’t caption the Instagram snap. However, it has since received over 63,000 comments from fans who expressed their disappointment at the singer while others supported him.
One fan named Maggie_acts0111 wrote, “he is trying to break up from the band by ruining his voice with that death stick” while another named rachiebelov shared her thoughts about the harmful effects of smoking.
“I am a nursing student and I have firsthand seen the effects of smoking and how it puts people in the hospital so Ima be as mad as I like because I honestly care for his health. He sings for a living so he can't exactly afford to get carcinoma in his lungs but yeah it's his life whatever,” she said.
Other fans supported Liam and even commented on how good he looks holding the cigarette. A fan named inevitableedge94 said, “Okay...your smoking so what, it's you're life anyway..just remember it takes away 11s Of your life..but you look hot I guess..” Another wrote “you are so cute” while one fan named zalma14 said to leave Liam alone since it’s his life and he can do whatever he wants.
Liam’s photo also went viral on Twitter and his fans pooled in their comments to express their disappointment and concern over his health.

Aside from the cigarette, the Instagram snap also showed Payne with a new tattoo on his arm. The site shared a photo of the design, which reportedly lies just above the two recent tattoos he got for his birthday.
Liam has yet to respond to his fans’ comments on Instagram and Twitter over his cigarette photo. However, this is not the first time the singer was spotted with a cigarette.
Mirror UK shared a photo of the singer back in December taking a puff out of the stick while One Direction was in London. Payne was photographed with Nial Horan and the snap was reportedly taken as they left their hotel to head to the airport.
