Trends show OLED displays will eventually replace LCDs and become the new benchmark for the finest smartphones in the future. Experts opine that more and more smartphone manufacturers are eyeing OLED displays.

LG Display is considered one of the most popular smartphone panel suppliers in the world. It seems the company is in talks with Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi to provide OLED displays for its future handsets in 2016.

Xiaomi, which has a strong relationship with LG, will use OLED display panels in its next range of smartphones, according to a report from Business Korea. The Chinese telecom company is planning to expand its lineup of OLED smartphones in the coming year.

LG and Xiaomi are about to finalise a deal in this regard. In this context, it’s worth mentioning Samsung Display has a market share of over 90 percent in OLED panels for mobile.

On the other hand, LG Display is aiming to enlarge its portfolio and reach out to smartphone manufacturers other than its parent company LG Electronics to increase its OLED production. Xiaomi will start receiving the OLED display panels from LG from the second quarter of 2016, as reported by Phone Arena.

Until recently, Xiaomi dominated the smartphone market in China when Huawei outshone it to become the top smartphone manufacturer. Xiaomi wants to expanding its reach into the developed markets like the U.S. and Europe. On Dec. 3, the Chinese manufacturer is expected to launch its latest flagship device, the Xiaomi Mi5 with a Snapdragon 820 chipset on board.

Apple may use OLED displays for the new iPhone and iPad models to be launched in 2016. There were also rumours that JOLED could supply display panels to Apple.

Kevin Wang, Technology Research Director, HIS China, predicted Huawei and Xiaomi have finalized plans to incorporate Amoled display panels in their future smartphones, probably supplied by Samsung.
