American singer, songwriter and actress Lady Gaga has opened up about the hardships she has faced throughout her life. Gaga went through depression and anxiety while growing up and she said that she still experiences such issues until now.

In a bid to help her fans, mostly teenagers, the “Poker Face” singer started a nonprofit foundation, called Born This Way, in 2012. The foundation focuses on anti-bullying, mentoring and career development of youngsters.

“I’ve suffered through depression and anxiety my entire life, I still suffer with it every single day. I just want these kids to know that that depth that they feel as human beings is normal. We were born that way. This modern thing, where everyone is feeling shallow and less connected? That‘s not human,” Gaga told Billboard.

Gaga, who graces the cover of this week’s Billboard magazine, gave a message of hope to the teens who are struggling to prove their identity to the world. The 29-year-old singer has always lent a helping hand to youngsters who have gone through tough times and are forced to bear the brunt of the society for being different.

Being an outspoken activist for LGBT rights worldwide, Gaga aims to help the youth who are bullied over their sexual orientation.

Billboard has also decided to honour the pop star as Billboard's 2015 Woman of the Year. The magazine has collaborated with Lifetime, the American cable and satellite television channel, to televise the event that will be held on Dec. 11 at Cipriani Midtown in New York. The event is scheduled to be aired on Dec. 18.

The six-time Grammy-winning singer has also achieved another milestone in her career by topping the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart with her music video, “Til It Happens To You.” The track was specifically produced for the documentary, “The Hunting Ground,” which talks about prevalence of sexual assault on college campuses.

Meanwhile, Gaga has recently concluded her 36-show tour in North America and Europe for her 2014 album “Cheek to Cheek.”
