After playing the lead role in “Gallipoli,” Kodi Smit-McPhee is set to star in “X-Men: Apocalypse, ” which will be released on May 27, 2016. The Bryan Singer film marks the 18-year-old Australian actor’s reunion with his “Slow West” co-actor Michael Fassbender.

In “Gallipoli,” Smit-McPhee played a 17-year-old boy who exaggerated his age so that he could enlist with his brother, which was played by Harry Greenwood. The drama miniseries premiered on Feb. 9 and concluded after four weeks.

“Slow West” was released a month after the finale of “Gallipoli.” The action western film, which marked John Maclean’s directorial debut, featured Smit-McPhee as a Scottish boy who went to the United States to search for the girl he loves. Fassbender plays a bounty hunter in the film.

In 2016, Smit-McPhee and Fassbender will co-star again in “X-Men: Apocalypse” as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler and Erik Lensherr/Magneto, respectively. It will be Smit-McPhee’s first “X-Men” film while it will be Fassbender’s third.

Fassbender played Erik Lensherr in the 2011 film “X-Men: First Class” and in the 2014 film “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” The 2016 film “X-Men-Apocalypse” will be the first film in which he plays Magneto.

Two weeks after the premiere of “Slow West,” Smit-McPhee and Singer took to Instagram to share a photo and a short video of Nightcrawler. However, both the actor and the director removed the posts shortly after.

Recently, Singer revealed at the San Pedro International Film Festival that “X-Men: Apocalypse” may be longer than previous “X-Men” films. He said that the upcoming film will be a wrap-up of six films, according to Coming Soon .

Joining Smit-McPhee and Fassbender in the “X-Men: Apocalypse” cast are Evan Peters as Peter/Quicksilver, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique, Nicolas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast, Olivia Munn as Betsy Braddock/Psylocke, Tye Sheridan as Scott Summers/Cyclops and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, among others. Oscar Isaac will also voice En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse.
