The housemates of "Big Brother Australia" won't escape from their civic duty to vote. Coalition leader Tony Abbott and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have sent in their video messages to the Nine Network reality show contestants to help them decide which one to vote for while they are in the famous house.

The TV station has invited the two politicians, as well as Greens leader Christine Milne and Palmer United Party's Clive Palmer to record messages for the housemates. They all obliged, although Mr Rudd opted to send a generic campaign DVD rather than a personalised video message for the housemates.

"Of the four videos we received, the only one that is not personalised is Rudd's," the show's executive producer, Alex Mavroidakis, told the AAP.

"We offered everyone a chance but I think Rudd had several pre-made generic messages and he sent one of those.

"We've got a great one from Christine Milne, Clive Palmer and Tony Abbott also saying 'Hello housemates,' and Abbott's there with his daughters saying they watch the show."

He added that Mr Abbott's daughters, Bridget and Frances, are fans of "Big Brother Australia."

The housemates will be told about the election date and shown a three-minute DVD from the leaders on Wednesday to help them pick their ideal candidate. As they are locked up and devoid of any communication from the outside since July 28, they don't know anything about the happenings in the outside world, including the political events.

The Federal Election Day for Queensland, where the Big Brother house is located, is on Saturday, September 7.

The show's production staff worked closely with the Australian Electoral Commission and the housemates' families to ensure that the voting process was correct, Mr Mavroidakis stated.

The remaining housemates - Ben, Drew, Ed, Heidi, Jade, Katie & Lucy, Matthew, Mikkayla, Tahan, Tim, and Tully - will be voting one at a time in the Diary Room. They won't be required to tell the producers who they voted for, but they will be free to discuss it with one another.
