Kate Middleton may not have personally met her mother-in-law, but she reportedly found a way to keep her memory alive. The Duchess of Cambridge has supposedly kept all some of the late Princess Diana’s mementos inside a treasure box for the sake of her children.

A source told OK Magazine that Kate Middleton has collected a few of Princess Diana’s belongings to keep inside the treasure chest. Prince William and Prince Harry have reportedly been helping the Duchess of Cambridge compile the collection so Kate has something to remind her children of their late grandmother. The source revealed the collection is “kind of like a dowry or hope chest and has things in there that the boys have kept from when their mother was alive.”

The source claimed it was Kate Middleton who came up with the idea to store some of Princess Diana’s items inside the chest. “She’s still her babies’ grandmother and wants them to understand just how special she was to the world,” the source added.

Kate Middleton’s collection reportedly includes jewellery and letters that once belonged to the late princess Diana. Additionally, the source claimed the chest will also have “photos and even recorded tapes” that Diana once recorded for her children to listen to during those times when she was away on royal duties.

Aside from the treasure chest, Kate Middleton and Prince William have reportedly also found another way to keep Princess Diana’s memory alive through their next child. When the Duchess of Cambridge had her 21-week scan, they assumed that they were going to have a baby girl. Even though Princess Diana may have reportedly been “estranged” with Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth II, Kate and William will reportedly still name their newborn after her grandmother. "Having a baby girl who carried her name will be a beautiful reminder of Diana every time he looks at his daughter," the insider further revealed to the publication.

However, the palace has yet to officially confirm if Kate is pregnant with a baby girl. The royal couple also still doesn’t know the gender of their second baby as they want to keep it a mystery until Kate Middleton gives birth. According to E Online, the Duchess of Cambridge once confirmed with volunteers at the Brookhill Children’s Centre in Woolwich that she’s due to give birth on the middle to end of April.
