Jerry West, who currently serves as an executive board member to the Golden State Warriors, would consider a return to the Los Angeles Lakers in July at the completion of his contract with the Oakland-based franchise, per reports. The Lakers could reportedly overhaul their front office at the end of the 2016-17 NBA season.

West had served as the general manager of the Lakers between 1982 and 2000 before taking his talents to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2002. Besides assembling a team that won five championships in the 1980s, 'The Logo' is also credited for the acquisitions of Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant -- who furthered the Lakers dynasty in the 21st century.

As an executive, West won six rings with the Lakers before embracing new challenges in Memphis and Golden State. The 78-year-old is still hands-on with the Warriors' daily operations. He reportedly nixed a Klay Thompson-for-Kevin Love trade and convinced Kevin Durant to join the Warriors this past summer.

According to The Mercury News, West is intrigued by the idea of returning to the Lakers. "Multiple sources indicated to me that West might be intrigued by an offer from the Lakers, but he also feels very connected to the Warriors’ quest for championships," Warriors beat writer Tim Kawakami reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Warriors owner Joe Lacob addressed the issue of West's expiring contract. "Yeah, we’re going to talk (about a contract extension). I’m not going to talk to him right now while he’s going through this (hospitalised after taking a fall). I might’ve even mentioned to you earlier that after the 1st of the year we would at some point sit down. And I’ve told him as well we’ll talk, figure it out, what’s best for him."

Lakers front office overhaul: Is Jim Buss stepping aside?

Ever since the Lakers hired Magic Johnson as an advisor, the word around the league is the Purple & Gold could overhaul its front office at the end of the season. Jim Buss, who serves as the team's president of basketball operations, could be forced to step aside due to the Lakers' fourth consecutive season in the lottery.

A few years ago, Buss had promised to step down if the Lakers weren't making "deep playoff runs" by 2017. "I was laying myself on the line by saying, if this doesn't work in three to four years, if we're not back on the top -- and the definition of top means contending for the Western Conference, contending for a championship -- then I will step down, because that means I have failed," Buss said back in 2013.

According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Buss could be held accountable and pressured into quitting by Johnson. “I’m taking Magic at face value, that he's here to help. He's one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Who wouldn't value his opinion? I'm excited to work with Magic for years to come," Buss told ESPN in an interview. Jerry West won his only championship as a player in 1972 when the Los Angeles Lakers beat the New York Knicks in the 1972 NBA Finals.
