San Francisco 49ers rookie Jarryd Hayne was inactive during the team’s 20-3 loss against the Seattle Seahawks last week. It was the first time Hayne was benched in his rookie season, but the US media have already been fuming about the Aussie rookie’s lack of playing time with San Francisco, and even calling out the 49ers to trade “Hayne Plane” to the Seahawks.

In Week 7 of the 2015-2016 NFL regular season, Hayne found himself in an unfamiliar and new situation. The 27-year-old rookie was benched by the 49ers following a very quiet outing against the Baltimore Ravens, where Hayne recorded second fumble in as many as six games. Hayne admitted he was disappointed with the benching, but accepted it as part of the challenges in his transition to American football.

While Hayne professionally accepted his benching, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Scott Ostler believes the 49ers should let go of Hayne if their organisation “isn’t ready to play NFL games” following a lopsided loss against Seattle. Ostler also noted that the 49ers should trade Hayne to the Seahawks, where coach Pete Caroll would love to use the former Eel in his game day rotation.

Caroll, who is also considered unconventional and willing to experiment his lineup, believes Hayne could be a “highlighted player” if the Aussie is suiting up for the Seahawks. According to the Sydney Morning Herald , Caroll revealed that Hayne could be used in other positions rather than playing as punt return and back-up running back, where the Aussie has very limited snaps.

According to Steve Berman of the Bay Area Sports Guy , the 49ers are clueless on how to utilise the talent of Hayne, who he described as one of the few dynamic players on the 49ers’ roster.

“When Pete Carroll was asked by a 49ers beat writer about the Seahawks’ interest in Hayne earlier this week, he was damn near drooling into the phone,” Berman wrote. “Seattle’s offence is nothing special, but it’s almost guaranteed that they’d be using Hayne in all kinds of situations that the 49ers coaching staff couldn’t even fathom.”

Leading 49ers beat writer Cam Inman listed on the San Jose Mercury News a number of players, including Hayne, who should get more chances at running back duties. Inman noted that Hayne should afford more carries with Carlos Hyde bothered by a nagging foot injury.

Hayne has the chance to bounce back from a tough week when the 49ers face the St Louis Rams in Week 8 of the season. But according to Roger Craig, a three-time Super Bowl winner with the 49ers, Hayne should have a flawless training week with the team in order to regain his spot on the field.

“Jarryd has to be flawless in training this week,” Craig wrote on Fox Sports . “You could argue it’s not fair to place that much pressure on practise drills, but he’s in a position where he can’t give the coaching staff any reason not to play him.”
