Former National Rugby League (NRL) star Jarryd Hayne made a good first impression in his first-ever NFL preseason game recording a total of 120 yards for the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Hayne, who left the Australian rugby club Parramatta Eels earlier this year to try to make a squad in the National Football League (NFL) in the United States, is one of the players being considered for the 49ers’ 53-man roster for the upcoming 2015 NFL regular season.

In the second quarter of the game versus the Texans, Hayne showed some moves that he has adjusted well so far from the rugby game to American football. Watch Hayne’s 53-yard run against the Texans:

Hayne, who played 176 games for the Eels from 2006 to 2014, is listed as a running back in San Francisco’s roster and had 63 rushing yards on 5 carries, 33 yards on a kick return and 24 yards on 2 punt returns.

"He can play in space. He's a premier athlete in the world in space," 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said to ESPN about the Australian player. "He absolutely has to battle to make the roster. I hope I am presenting a very tempered approach to what happened tonight with Jarryd. There were things that happened tonight, and we have a long way to go. But the thing that excites me is the type of person that he is."

Hayne’s NFL debut also put him among the trending topics on social media Twitter.

Hayne’s 49ers lost to the Texans, 23-10 and will have the Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers in their preseason schedule.
